Traditional Wedding Bands for Women
Traditional Wedding Bands For Women Metals
Wedding Bands for women have traditionally been made from one of three metals. The most common metal used in women’s wedding bands is yellow gold. Some women prefer the look of yellow gold while others think that for multiple purposes white gold or silver (the other two choices for traditional wedding bands for women) are the best choice.
Traditional Wedding Bands for Women Styles
In recent history the most common wedding bands for women was a simple and delicate band that was nearly identical to the engagement ring without the diamond, so that together the diamond engagement ring and the wedding band made a simple but elegant set. More recently there are been some added flare to the arrangement of engagement rings and wedding bands. Sometimes the two are designed to link together in either a locking style or twist together design. These can have insets that fit together, or flowers and or leaves that overlap and intertwine to form a single unit. Occasionally the two pieces need to be soldered together after the wedding to hold them together during standard wear.
Contemporary Wedding Bands for Women
My daughters have been given heritage engagement rings from grandmothers (one of them still chose an engagement right without a diamond), but none of them have chosen from traditional wedding bands for women. They chose from different metals mostly looking at tungsten or stainless steel and some of it is a price issue with the price of gold and silver escalated with the rocky financial times, but some of it is purely functional and not a rebellion against tradition as much as a desire to create their own future and memories.
Clearly these choices mean there is no chance that the wedding bands for women that they have chosen will match with their engagement rings. Instead it offers a sharp contrast between the simple and delicate nature of the engagement rings and the wedding bands that more closely match their future husband’s wedding band in width and style. Some of the contemporary wedding bands for women have punch outs and other features that make it look more like decorative jewelry. As a parent I am reminded that the significance in the wedding band is not the metal, style, and symmetry, but rather it is found in its symbolism of the commitment they are making to their husband.
